AMORE, John  (1912-1977) Italian-American sculptor, medalist.
Born Genoa, Italy, 2 October 1912.

His most famous medallic work was the 1967 Handy & Harman Centennial Medal. He created a design which           could be struck on a partially layered silver strip on a bronze blank forming a bimetallic obverse for this silver firm.           This was brilliant! [The cataloger viewed the letter from the client company to the artist – half page long. Amore           created the symbolism, the design, and the model for this most innovative medal from these brief instructions!]            Medallic Art Co officials solved the intricate production problems of keeping the medal in register between multiple           strikings required for such an art medal.

Died Bethpage, New York, September 1977.
