ANDRIEU, Jean Bertrand  (1761-1822) French engraver, sculptor.
          Born Bordeaux, France, 6 July 1761.
          Studied engraving with Lavau; in 1776 joined the medal-maker
          Gatteaux in Paris. Acknowledged leader of national engravers
          during first French Empire. His most famous medal was the
          Storming of the Bastille, 1879. Active in selling clichés of
          his major medallic work.
          His nephew, Jules Andrieu (q.v.) New Orleans medalist.
          Died Paris, France, 10 December 1822.
