ARMITAGE, George  (fl 1799-1826) Colonial American plate worker, diesinker, buttonmaker.

          Born Sheffield, England (ca 1770). Came to America and Philadelphia 1795. McGuinn and Bazelon report he                    was making buttons as early as 1798, engraved dies for artillery buttons in 1804 and created "Eagle Factory"                       brand buttons 1815 (among his dozen maker's marks).

           Also his successor firm was headed by William Pinchin (fl 1825-1862).

           Died Philadelphia, 1826.
