BACON, John  (1740-1799) British wax modeler, sculptor.
          Born Southwark, England, 24 November 1740.
          Known as John Bacon the elder, because his son of the
          same name (1777–1859), was also a sculptor, called
          John Bacon the younger.
          The elder attended Royal Academy beginning in 1758.
          He is noted for his low reliefs; exhibited at Royal Academy
          (1769-1799) and Free Society (1762-1764).
          Died London, 7 August 1799.
