BARTLETT, Paul Wayland  (1865-1925) sculptor.
           Born New Haven, Connecticut, 24 January 1865.
           His Lafayette statue (donated by U.S. to France, now
           in the Louvre) appears on the reverse of Lafayette
           Dollar. Funds to defray part of expense to cast and
           erect statue at Paris 1900 Exposition was raised from
           American school children donating coins; noted by
           reverse coin legend.
           Bartlett executed seated Benjamin Franklin statue in
           Waterbury, Connecticut where he resided for a time,
           for which he was named to Watebury Hall of Fame.
           Two statues, Michelangelo and Columbus in Library
           of Congress.
           Fellow: National Sculpture Society.
           Died Paris, France, 20 September 1925.
