BEACH, Chester  (1881-1956) sculptor, medalist.
          Born San Francisco, 23 May 1881.
          Early in career he was designer for San Francisco jewelry
          firm, Shreve & Company (1900-1903).
          Four busts in Hall of Fame: Asa Gray (1925), Eli Whitney
          (1926), Samuel F.B. Morris (1928), Walt Whitman (1931).
          Beach exhibited consistantly at the National Academy of
          Design (usually the Winter shows, 1907-1931): a frame of
          medals in 1909, his Children's Year and ANS Peace Medal
          in 1919, and his Monroe Doctrine Commemorative Half
          Dollar and Charles Coffin Medal in 1924.
          His medals made by Medallic Art Company spaned four
          decades.
          Signed models with CB in circle monogram or initials.
          Academition American Academy of Arts and Letters.
          Honorary Fellow: National Sculpture Society.
          Awarded: J. Sanford Saltus Medal for Medallic Art by
          American Numismatic Society, 1946.
          Winner 1938 National Sculpture Society Lindsey Morris
          Prize for best bas-relief (including medallic art).
          Member Royal Academy.
          Died Brewster, New York, 6 August 1956.
