BENSON, John Everett  (1939- ) designer, calligrapher, stonecarver, typeface designer.
           Nickname: Fud.
            Trained by his father, John Howard Benson (q.v.), began
           working at The Stevens Shop at age 15 as artisan, stonecutter;
           assumed management from father in 1956, relinquished to
           his son, Nicholas Benson, 1993.
           Designed the only American Bicentennial medal of one
           design struck by three different medallic companies.
