BROOKS, Samuel F.  (fl 1790-1805) Colonial American medalist-designer 
           He designed first American Washington medal, the
            Manly Medal, named for publisher James Manly of Philadlephia).
            Brooks probably modeled the head of Washington from 1784
            painting by Joseph Wright (q.v.). He was also goldsmith, seal
            engraver and Benzit credits him as a miniaturist. Worked in
            Boston and for brief time, then the Carolinas.
