CLEVENGER, Shobal Vail  (1812 -1843) early American sculptor.
           Born 1813 Middletown, Ohio.

           Studied under Nicolas Longworth and David Guion.  After doing busts 
           for society members in Philadelphia, Washington and Boston, he traveled
           to Italy to refine his skills, where he contracted tuberculosis.

           Died 1843 at sea returning from Italy to America.
