CROFT, James  (1774-1837) Early American engraver, diesinker.
           Born Little Whitby, Worcestershire, England, 28 January
           1774. Employed by Birmingham buttonmaker. Came to
           America and Philadelphia prior 1820. He traveled to
           Waterbury where he was hired by Scovills and stayed
           there for one year. Died 10 June 1837.
