ERTE [pseudonym of] Romain de Toroff (1892-1990)
            Russian-French artist, designer.
            Born Saint Petersburg, Russia, 23 November 1892.
          
          Widely known as Erté , the French pronunciation of his
            initials R.T., he was active in many art fields including
            fashion, jewelry, graphic arts, costume and set designs
            for film, theater, opera, interior décor, and also – late in
            life – small sculpture and medallic works. His American
            protege, Ira Bruce Reines (q.v.) rendered his designs into
            foundry and medallic patterns, as for those listed below.
            Died Paris, France, 21 April 1990.
