FELTON, Robert  (flourished 1683) Colonial American seal-cutter, diesinker, counterfeiter.
          Name variation: Robert Fenton.

          Felton convicted of engraving dies for counterfeit
          Spanish coins, August 1683. The Pennsylvania Archives
          (1: p 84-85, 88) reveal Charles Pickering and Samuel
          Buckley convicted for "their abuse to ye Government in
          quining of Spanish bitts and Boston Money." Pickering
          compelled to redeem the bad money and pay a fine of
          £40, Buckley paid £10 fine, and the ingenious Fenton
          at an hour in the stocks.
