FERRELL, T. James  (1939- ) sculptor.
           Staff sculptor Franklin Mint. Staff engraver U.S. Mint.
           Born Clayton, New Jersey, 1939. Graduate of
           Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in painting,
           sculpture, graphics.Joined Franklin Mint 1969 as
           medallic artist under Gilroy Roberts. In August 1989
           appointed to engraving department United States Mint,
           Philadelphia, retired from the Mint March 2003.
           The 1992 Columbus $5 gold coin (obverse by T. James
           Ferrell, reverse by Thomas D. Rogers Sr) won a COTY,
           Coin Of The Year award (from Krause Publications) for
           Best Gold Coin.
           Awarded American Numismatic Association’s Award for
            Excellence in Medallic Sculpture (formerly called Medallist     
            of the Year), 2002, the 34th such recipient of this award.
