HEATON, Augustus Goodyear  (1844-1930) painter, numismatist.
          Born Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 28 April 1844.
          His paintings used on stamps: Recall of Columbus, in United
          States Capitol, was the subject of the 50-cent stamp for the
          1893 Columbian Exposition (Scott 240), and 10-cent 1898
          Trans-Mississippi Expo stamp (Scott 290).

          He wrote "Coinage of the U.S. Branch Mints," {1895}
          nicknamed "Mint Marks" (it's cover title). United States
          coins, collected only by date previously, were recognized as
          having mintmarks and these became of interest to collectors
          thereafter because of this book.
          Member (president): New York Numismatic Club (and his
          portrait appears on medal in their president series).
          Died Washington, DC, 11 September 1930.
