KRETSCHMAN, Edward A.  (1849- ) German-American sculptor, engraver, teacher.
            Born Germany, 27 August 1849. Came to America 1856,
            settled in Philadelphia. Signed dies EAK initials.
            He created the first Mardi Gras medal, forerunner
            of all the light weight doubloons of 20th century.
            He is most noted for a Civil War monument (dedicated
            3 September 1890) 11th Pennsylvania Monument, in
            memory of the Battle of Hatchers' Run, Virginia,
            which occurred 6 February 1865.
            Died Philadelphia [after 1915].
