LAWTON, Richard C.  (1823-1894) British-American designer,
            engraver, diesinker, inventor, Waterbury.

            Born Lancashire, England, 29 July 1823.  Came to
            America prior 1849, diesinker first in New York City,
            1849. Listed in Waterbury city directories 1868-94; as
            Lawton (R.C.) & Son, with George B. Lawton until
            1874 when George in own business and Richard C.
            went to work for Scovill (for 2 years). R.C. on his
            own thereafter. Consistent advertiser: "All kinds of
            stamping dies for metallic work." Receives patent for
            lamp 1880.

            Died Waterbury, Connecticut, 7 November 1894.
