MANKOWSKI, Bruno  (1902-1990) German-American sculptor, medalist.
         Born Berlin, Germany, 30 October 1902.
         Came to America 1928; became U.S. citizen 1933.
         Won $1,500 first prize in Medallic Art Company 50th Anniv
         Medal contest,1949, over 150 entries to celebrate opening of
         new building in New York City (MAco 1950-026, see below).
         Signed models BM initials.
         Fellow: National Sculpture Society.
         Awarded J. Sanford Saltus Medal for Medallic Art by
         American Numismatic Society, 1960.
         Awarded American Numismatic Association’s Award for
         Excellence in Medallic Sculpture (formerly called Medallist
         of the Year), 1980, the 14th such recipient of this award
         Winner 1978 National Sculpture Society Lindsey Morris Prize
         for best bas-relief (including medallic art).
         Died De Bary, Florida, 31 July 1990.
