MARTIN, Chester Young  (1934- ) sculptor.
         Born Chattanooga, Tennessee, 2 November 1934.

         Graduate Fine Arts Dept, University of Chattanooga 1961.
         Attended Medallic Art Workshop, Pennsylvania State
         University, conducted by John Cook, 1984.
         Staff U.S. Mint (1986-92).

         The 1992 White House Silver Dollar (obverse by Edgar
         Z. Steever, reverse by Chester Y. Martin) won a COTY,
         Coin Of The Year award (from Krause Publications)
         for Most Popular coin that year.

         Signed models CYM initials or name Martin, C.Y. Martin.

         Member: American Medallic Sculpture Association.
         Member: Fédération Internationale de la Médaille.
         Awarded American Numismatic Association’s Award for
         Excellence in Medallic Sculpture (formerly called Medallist     
         of the Year), 1993, the 25th such recipient of this award.
