MARTINY, Philip  (1858-1927) French-American sculptor, medalist.
         Born Strasbourg, Alsace, France, 19 May 1858.
         Came to America 1876.

         Worked as assistant to Augustus St-Gaudens. Created
         exposition sculpture at Chicago World's Fair 1892,
         Buffalo Pan-American 1901, St. Louis World's Fair, 1904.
         The City of New York owns more of his outdoor sculpture
         (14 pieces) than any other artist other than John Quincy
         Adams Ward (q.v.).

         Also created relief tablets too large to be listed here.

         Associate: National Academy of Design.
         Member: National Sculpture Society.

         Died New York City, 26 January 1927.
