MAY, George W.  (active 1837-60) Early American engraver,
          diesinker, New York City. He worked for Bale & Smith
          (1843-48), became parter with James Bale on dissolution
          of former firm to become Bale & May (1848-51). When
          Bale died or left NYC May joined with George J.
          Glaubrecht to form May & Glaubrecht (1852-60).
