OERTEL, Johannes Adam (1823-1909) German-American
            banknote engraver, portrait painter, designer.
            Full name: Johannes Adam Simon Oertel.
            
            Born Fürth, Bavaria, Germany, 3 November 1823.
            Came to America & Newark, New Jersey, 1848.
            Became a Protestant Episcopal priest 1871.
            He designed the decoration in the skylight in the ceiling
            of the House of Representatives in the United States Capitol.        
            Painted religious paintings, most noted: Rock of Ages.
            He was the subject of book by his son, A Vision Realized,
            illustrating many of his works.
            
            Died Vienna, Virginia, 9 December 1909.
