PELOSO, Matthew  (1910- ) Italian-American sculptor, engraver.
          Born Salerno, Italy, 9 October 1910.
          Family came to America in 1912.
          On staff United States Mint, Philadelphia.
          The 1982 George Washington 250th Anniversary Half
          Dollar – the first of the modern U.S. commemorative coins
          – with obverse by Elizabeth Jones and reverse by Matthew
          Peloso won the 1984 COTY, the Coin Of The Year award
          (from Krause Publications), and two other of the organization's
          awards: Most Popular and Most Historical Significant, the
          only U.S. coin to win three such awards that year.
          Signed coin models MP initials.
