PETERSEN, Christian  (1885-1961) Danish-American
          diecutter, medalist, sculptor.
          Born Dybbol, North Schlesvig, Denmark, 3 July 1885.
          Came to America at age 9, his family settled on a farm
          in Paxton, Illinois. Then moved to New Jersey where
          he learned diecutting at Newark New Jersey Technical
          School, after which he worked in Attleboro Massachusetts
          jewelry manufacturing for 15 years, where much of his
          medallic work was created. He cut dies for medals,
          plaquettes and spoons (12 spoons listed in DeLong,
          (46–57). He also prepared sculpture, busts and reliefs
          while in New England.
        
          Appointed art teacher Iowa State College, (1934) Ames
          Iowa, a position he held for 21 years.
          Died Ames, Iowa, 4 April 1961.
