PICCIRILLI, Attilio  (1868-1945) Italian-American sculptor.
Born Massa, Italy, 16 May 1868.
          Came to America 1888.
From a family of sculptors (father Guiseppe had six sons –
all sculptors). The family is most famous for carving the
marble statue of Abraham Lincoln from Daniel Chester
French’s models, plus many sculptures in New York City
including the Lions at New York Public Library.

Attilio is the only Piccirilli sculptor who modeled  medals.
(In 1927 Medallic Art president Clyde Trees stated any one
of the Piccirilli brothers – he named Ferruccio and Furio
          – could model medals for the company.)

          Fellow: National Sculpture Society.
Died New York City, 8 October 1945.
