PIKE, Charles J.  (ca1870- ) sculptor, medalist.
Studied with Augustus St-Gaudens in Paris who exposed
him to reliefs and modeling for medallic art. Despite the
fact no medal can be found which he created, Pike
conducted a class at the National Academy of Design in
New York City of coin and medal design with related
pantographic diecutting under the auspices of the American
Numismatic Society (1901). The second year Victor
Brenner (q.v.) was the instructor. Pike returned (1903-05)
but the course was abandoned for lack of students.
