BARCLAY, McClelland (1891-1943) designer, U.S. Naval
officer, illustrator, sculptor.
Born Saint Louis, Missouri, 9 May 1891.
Worked as a commercial artist and created the Fisher
Body Girl used to advertise GM cars. Founded McClelland
Barclay Art Company which manufactured household
objects, toys, boxes, bowls. Called to active duty as a naval
reservist, 1940. Painted U.S. Naval officers, battle scenes.
Died in naval action, New Georgia, 18 July 1943.
