BECHTLER, Alt Christoph (Christopher Sr.) ( -1842) Early American diesinker.
The Bechtlers came from Baden, Germany, to settle in
Rutherfordton, North Carolina where they set up a jewelry
shop, later established a private mint and issued gold coins
made from gold mines in area. After the death of the senior
Bechtler the business was continued by his son, Augustus,
and nephew, Christopher Junior (see next entries).
