Engraver-General Paris Mint, 1791-1803.
Born Saint-Étienne, France, 6 October 1748.
His art reputation, even beyond France, was noted when
Benjamin Franklin, in 1782, commissioned him to engrave
the most noted American Medal, the Libertas Americana,
and this continued for four official U.S. medals – the
Comitia Americana -- and three medals honoring Franklin
(all listed below).
