LEICHTWEIS, Louis (active 1850-60) German-American engraver,
diesinker, New York City.
Born in Germany, ca 1824. Came to America prior 1850.
Onetime partner in firm Leichtweis & Horter, 1856-58,
with Charles Horter (q.v.). In 1970 Galdfelter gave this
engraver's name Eichtweis, from misreading signed piece,
later corrected. Only one of perhaps many Civil War
tokens can be attributed to this engraver.
