LINGG, Joseph (fl 1865-76) possible engraver, token
maker, jeweler, Philadelphia.
A partner in Lingg & Brother (with brother Frederick,
token Producers), Joseph may have been the engraver of
small token dies (actually medalets) during the period
of the American Centennial. Or these dies may have
been engraved by other Philadelphia engravers (William
H. Key, John W. Kline, or Charles K. Warner). They
were studied and listed by numismatist Arlie R.
Slabaugh, who reports over 600 known varieties.
