NEMON, Oscar (1906-1985) Yugoslav-English sculptor, coin designer.
Born Osijek, Yugoslavia, 13 March 1906.
After study in his native Osijek, Vienna and Paris he
moved to England 1939 prior to outbreak of World War II.
He prepared busts and statues of British Royalty and
famous government officials (often from life). He also
prepared a bust of Dwight D. Eisenhower.
He was the designer of the British 1965 Winston Churchill
crown (KM 910) but was disappointed in the coin's final
form. In 1969 he was commissioned by Neil S. Cooper of
International Numismatic Agency, New York City, to
prepare the Churchill portrait he wanted to do originally.
This appeared as the Churchill D-Day 25th Anniv Medal.
Died Oxford, England, 13 April 1985. His papers are at
Churchill College, Cambridge, donated by daughter Alice
Nemon Stuart, 2003.
