PAQUET, Anthony C. (1814-1882) German-American
diesinker, engraver, New York City (1848-56), U.S. Mint,
Philadelphia (1856-1877).
Born Hamburg, Germany, 5 December 1814. His father
was Toussaint Francois Paquet, "a worker in bronze at
Hamburg" according to Forrer. Came to America
October 1848; in Philadelphia (1850-55), in New York
(1855-57) before settling in Philadelphia.
Appointed assistant engraver U.S. Mint, 1857.
According to Breen Paquet had a narrow lettering style;
Chief Engraver Longacre was unsure of his die work for
coins so assigned Paquet predominantly to create dies for medals.
Died Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 1882.
Signed dies with last name in full, or P monogram,
and at least once AP [only in 19th century, later mint
engraver, Adam Pietz, used AP in 20th century.]
